Like every family in Virginia, every domestic assault case is unique. Our domestic assault lawyers Carlos Wall and Alex Gordon are experienced, caring, and effective and have helped hundreds of clients as they encountered the criminal justice system for the first time because of allegations of domestic assault in Virginia. At The Gordon Law Firm, our lawyers will take the time to listen to you, address your questions, and give you an honest assessment of what to expect in your case.
If you have been arrested for domestic assault in Fairfax, Loudoun, or Prince William County, do not talk to the police without an experienced domestic assault lawyer present. No matter what a law enforcement officer promises, making statements without legal representation may only make things worse for you.
If your loved one or friend is jail on a charge of domestic assault in Virginia, do not talk to them about the circumstances surrounding the arrest on the jail phone. The police and the prosecutors listen to the recorded conversations and will use any statements against you.
During their 35 years of combined experience in court, Carlos Wall and Alex Gordon have helped more than 500 people accused of domestic violence in Virginia courtrooms.

Domestic Assault and Protective Orders
In Northern Virginia, it is law enforcement policy to arrest at least one person when responding to a domestic violence call. In the past, police were willing to let couples work things out on their own if the situation had calmed down and both parties were willing, but in too many cases tempers would flare again and the police would receive another call. If someone is arrested, the police will also obtain a protective order for the benefit of the party who was not arrested. This protective order lasts for 72 hours and is intended to provide a cooling-off period between the parties.
This protective order, known as an emergency protective order, can be extended at a full hearing on the request. This extension can last up to two years. It is not uncommon for the attorneys at The Gordon Law Firm, PC to litigate both the assault charge and the protective order. We have extensive experience litigating both the criminal charge as well as the civil protective order. It is important to contact a lawyer right away so that we can defend your rights in both the criminal case and the civil protective order. The law governing domestic assault and protective orders is complicated. Give us a call today so we can explain how to best prepare a defense in both cases.
